Cowboy Bebop and the Value of Perspective

This is the value of perspective.

In Cowboy Bebop, they take a line from the Beatles, “You’re gonna carry that weight”.

I used to find that line so sad. I emphasized the “weight” of it. I thought it meant that life would force us to endure what Spike endured. To borrow from Game of Thrones: Winter is eventually coming.

Now, I see that the word that should be emphasized is “carry”. The weight will come, but we’ll carry it, successfully.

That’s why Spike’s death is ambiguous. It’s up to us to think if he carried that weight and survived.

To all of those sentient beings with burdens to carry and crosses to bear: Every step up the mountain is noble.
